Janna Meijer

a maker of meaning with a pinch of friction

Once upon a time, there was a mature woman. Her gray hairs represent an almost indescribable wealth of experience.
The common thread therein is her yearning for truth, beauty, and the right words.

She is unceasingly searching for the person behind the mask, the story behind the product, the spirit of a company and the motivation behind a service.

In our eyes, she can be hopelessly clumsy and overly critical to the point that no single idea survives her feedback. But she recognizes a good story before anyone else does. Her analyses are still razor-sharp, and her texts are spot-on.

She truly thinks that she has the last word within our studio. It's best for everyone to let her believe that.

a keen eye asking endless clever questions

Once upon a time, there was a young woman who didn't want to be the protagonist of a story at all. But secretly a part of her longs for a place in the spotlight.

She is the queen of detail. She feels at ease only when everything is in its proper place. Going through text or a layout with a fine-tooth comb, that truly makes her happy.

Those eyes of hers, they see everything. All mistakes, all inconsistencies. But those eyes also identify, compile and create the most beautiful images, compositions and combinations. Mood boards, layouts, photos, films. They are made, and revised, and refined, and revised again.

She is in charge without ever raising her voice. And in fact, she directs everything without anyone noticing.

a qualified rebel with a creative cause

Once upon a time, there was a rebellious girl with a wild mane of curls. Those same curls could tell you exactly how she was feeling.

Sweet talk makes her skin crawl and half-ass-answers anger her like nothing else. The rebellious part of her character brings into focus the frayed edges that others tend to polish away.

Janna is not about bowing down, conforming, or staying in the comfort zone. But… not to worry. We've learned how to provide the right counterbalance – and we're experts at it.

She is both the rebel and the passionate perfectionist. Both the little ray of sunshine and the raging thunderstorm.

We cannot and do not want to be without her.
She is our secret weapon.

Once upon a time, there was a young woman who didn't want to be the protagonist of a story at all. From a young age, she had the tendency to make herself appear a little smaller than she actually was. And she wasn't that tall to begin with.

That's one side of her.

On the other side, she is secretly very talented and would actually quite like to be on stage. Oh well, at least for now you won't find her in the spotlight. But behind the scenes, she is indispensable. And we would know.

She is the queen of detail. She feels at ease only when everything is in its proper place. Going through text or a layout with a fine-tooth comb, that truly makes her happy. Sloppy work angers her. If we hear her yell "I can't take it anymore," it's because her eye has spotted something that has been sent out into the world without appropriate care and attention.

Those eyes of hers, they see everything. All mistakes, all inconsistencies. But those eyes also identify, compile and create the most beautiful images, compositions and combinations.
Mood boards, layouts, photos, films. They are made, and revised, and refined, and revised again.

This outstanding quality of hers also has its downside. She doesn't quite know when to stop. It has taken her a fair amount of time (sigh) to appreciate the beauty of imperfection.

Now that she finally has, she suddenly loves everything that is rough and problematic. After all, that's what makes things more interesting and captivating. More real, more alive.

But she can take it too far, and besides, we already have Janna, and she's more than enough of a rebel for all three of us.

Lastly, she is the exception that proves the rule. Recent research has shown that multitasking makes a person less productive. We believe it immediately, but that does not apply to our multi-talented colleague. Quite the contrary.

And then a warning. Do not be deceived by her small stature, her long hair, and her charming smile. She usually gets what she wants. She is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and she's proud of it.
So are we.

designer · digital warrior · copywriter · productdeveloper · creative multipotentiality · queen of illustration · Adobe wizard

Once upon a time, there was a rebellious girl with a wild mane of curls. And those same curls could tell you exactly how she was feeling.

Ever since she was young, she has wanted to know how things truly were. She couldn't help it. Sweet talk made her skin crawl and half-ass-answers angered her like nothing else. She would start stomping her feet if people tried to convince her of something she knew wasn't true. And in the spirit of honesty, she'd tell you that the feet-stomping hasn't completely left her system.

Teachers at school thought cognition was her strongest suit, but they didn't yet know what her hands were capable of. Nothing is unthinkable once she starts writing, drawing, designing, photographing, pottery, carpentry, designing.

Luckily for us, she didn't attend university. Insted, she went to Design Academy in Eindhoven. There, she not only got many lessons in humility, she also developed her own distinctive vision of communication and product development.

In that creative paradise, she seized every opportunity to experiment, learn, stumble, start over, and create the most beautiful things. Things with a story. Concepts with a vision. Because creating something that's just beautiful would boooooore her to death.

She entered the academy a slightly privileged girl and left a self-assured rebel with a guitar under her arm and a "how hard can it be"-attitude.

Life has softened the sharp edges a bit, though the rebel inside her has not disappeared. Thankfully not. The rebellious part of her character brings into focus the frayed edges that others tend to polish away. It gives her work that edgy little thing that makes it unique. And honest.

Janna is not about bowing down, conforming, or staying in the comfort zone. For our clients, it's therefore comforting to know that she doesn't work alone. By now, we've learned how to provide the right counterbalance – and lots of practice made us experts.

But she is also, and above all, about uncompromising quality. She is not just the battering ram, she's also the monk who spends days drawing a single letter.

Firecracker, mad-scientist, sleep-lover, team player. She doesn't take criticism too well and works best under pressure.

Once upon a time, there was a mature woman. Her gray hair makes it obvious that she is the eldest of the trio.
Those lovely grays represent the experience gained from a varied career and a challenging family life.
The common thread through all those experiences is her craving for truth, beauty, and the right words.
She practices the art of living with the utmost devotion and has more passions than fit in a single human life.

She is a mother and a lover, exuberant and withdrawn, minimalist and gypsy.
Soft and venomous, creator and destroyer, writer and editor, stylist and bringer of chaos.

Wherever she goes, in shops, restaurants, galleries, she wonders about the story that is being told there.
When she meets people, or when she peers into their homes during her evening walk with the dogs, she ask herself: How happy are they? Have their dreams come true? What grieves them? What is their lifestory?

Over the years, she increasingly struggles with the roles people play, the facades they maintain, the discrepancies between what people say and who they show us that they really are. She refuses to believe that life is about being successful, staying young, having followers, getting likes, and constantly checking your phone.

She is incessantly searching for the person behind the mask, the story behind the product, the inspiration behind a company, the motivation behind a service.

In our eyes, she is hopelessly clumsy with anything that has a cord and occasionaly she's critical to the point that no single idea survives her feedback.
She is no longer allowed to change passwords, and we have forbidden her from organizing our files or – even worse – saving them in her inexplicable and inimitable ways.

But she recognizes a good story before anyone else does. Her vision reaches beyond the near future, and sees where the world is heading in the long run. Her analyses are still razor-sharp, and her texts are spot-on.

She lives under the assumption that she has the last word within our studio. It's best for everyone to let her believe that.

we believe in telling stories

|

no point in saying something
only because you think it's what others want to hear.

Some believe that appearances are more important than what lives on the inside. Others see the exterior as mere packaging, a costly luxury, and they believe that only the interior truly matters.

For us, there is nothing more beautiful than an outside appearance that reveals what lies within. An outside presentation that reflects the essence of its inhabiter. The soul, if you will. This applies to people, as well as products, companies, and organizations.

Form follows identity, if it's up to us.
What is inside, shows on the outside.
We have a deep longing for a world where the exterior is not the mask behind which the interior hides, but where they dance together.
With respect for one another: challenging, passionate, genuine.

A world in which they collaborate so they can really be seen in the world and pursue what drives them.

We feel so fortunate when we can contribute to that process. Through conversations, words, images, design and through the many other shapes that stories can take.

Branding people, products & companies in a truthful way.
